This area is best known for its man-made (but very beautiful) lake and the surrounding mountain villages. The mountainous area around Lake Nikolaos Plastiras welcomes those keen on outdoor activities. This place is ideal for walking, mountain biking, climbing, rowing, swimming and sailing. The many small unmade roads also make 4x4 driving a pleasure here.

After all that exercise the medicinal springs at Kaitsas and Smokovo offer relaxation and for spiritual replenishment there is a ruin of an Early Christian Basilica at Philia. Refreshments can be found at some of the charming traditional mountain villages.
