The peninsula of Halkidiki extends into the blue Aegean sea. Lined by beautiful sandy beaches, mysterious coves and traditional fishing villages it divides into three small peninsulas. The most easterly is Mount Athos. This is the preserve of monks. No female (not even female animals) may enter the peninsula. This is the realm of wild forest and an enduring spiritual way of life. The numerous monasteries guard priceless Byzantine and early Christian relics.

For mere mortals the other two penisulas offer golden sandy beaches and clean clear waters. The area has been award 41EU blue flags.

For those who can bear to leave the crystal waters there are numerous picturesque villages, stunning gulfs, and cultural, historical and religious sites.
