The prefecture of Grevena lies in north-west Greece and is characterised by the green Pindos mountains, whose foothills offer food and protection for the ubiquitous herds of goats. Monasteries, such as Zavorda on Mt Kallistraton, lie in the peace of the mountains.The wild beauty of the mountains has been protected and forms the National Forest of Pindos. High in the peaks is the National Ski resort of Basilitsa.

Those with a historical interest may find the Neolithic site at Knide interesting; excavations of the early Neolithic settlement are on view to the public.
