Evia is a large island just off the east coast of Attika. It is therefore a convenient destination for those who want to travel on from Athens. The ferry from Rafina (on the east Attika coast) takes about one hour.

The mountainous and rocky centre of the island slips down to the coast where intimate fishing villages cast twinkling lights into the moon-lit water. The sea front in Marmari is lined around a cosy port by sea front tavernas and cafes. Small beaches and coves can be found around the island and there is a thermal spa in Aedipsos. The quaint villages of Kyma, Styra and Karystos offer an insight into a way of life practised for centuries.
