The prefecture of Emathia is a mountainous land and a land steeped in history. This was the home of Alexander the Great. His father, King Philip had a sumptuous palace close to the town of Veria. The ruins of the palace can still be seen today and amazingly in 1977 a wealth of exquisite and precious grave goods were discovered here. They were buried along with King Philip and his seven wives. They include rich, and ancient clothes and golden artefacts; they are now housed in the Thessaloniki Archaeological museum.
